There are two ways to transfer to a grammar school in Basel-Stadt - with a grade point average or via the voluntary entrance examination. Anyone who has not achieved the required grade point average and grade point total in the first report card of the third year of secondary school can take the voluntary entrance examination Register.

Voluntary entrance examination Gymnasium Basel-Stadt
Good preparation for the voluntary entrance examination in Basel-Stadt is the key to success. Two subjects - German and mathematics - are examined, each in written form for 90 minutes. The examination usually takes place on one day in March. Students who wish to write the entrance examination for the Gymnasium in Basel are released from school on the day of the examination. Pupils from all performance streams (A stream, E stream and P stream) are admitted to the examination.

If the transfer to the Gymnasium by means of a certificate did not work out, there is the possibility to take a voluntary entrance examination.
