In Basel-Stadt, there are two ways to transfer to a specialized middle school - with a grade point average and grade point average or via the voluntary entrance examination. The examination usually takes place on one day in March. Students who wish to write the entrance exam for the Basel Fachmittelschule will be exempted from school on the day of the exam. Pupils from all performance streams (A stream, E stream and P stream) are admitted to the examination.
